Ettlingen, September 2000
After a testing period of several months,
the worldwide unique chlorine absorption plant, which has been developed by GEA
Jet Pumps, is now officially being presented. The plant is located at the
National Response Center of TUIS ("Transport-Unfall-Informations- und
Hilfeleistungssystem", Transport Emergency Information Unit) in Ludwigshafen,
Germany. The core of the plant is a two-stage jet scrubber which draws in and
scrubs impure air containing up to 150 kg chlorine and purifies it to a
chlorine content of less than 10 ppm. Depending on the case of application, the
lye supplies will last for 2 hours of permanent operation. The mobile chlorine
absorption plant is operational right around the clock. It has the dimensions
of a container and can be transported by lorry, rail or air. The system can
also be used for abating other leaking gas such as sulphur dioxide or hydrogen
chloride.
